Community Property Questionnaire due April 10

Last week, the Board sent to all members, a questionnaire in regard to the Community Property. Please take a few moments to review the questionnaire and mail it in to the LBCA P.O Box. This is a great opportunity for all members to weigh in with their thoughts in regard to the community property.

There is a comment section on the bottom of the questionnaire, which can be used to provide additional feedback. We kindly ask, that each member return the questionnaire by April 10. All the Best!

Shoreline owners workshop on Saturday, March 28

One of our members forwarded this great opportunity….

Island County residents are invited to take advantage of a FREE workshop to learn from experts about bluffs and beaches, erosion, and alternatives to hard armoring on the shoreline.  These workshops are sponsored by the Northwest Straits Foundation, in cooperation with Island County’s Marine Resources Committee. Although the workshop is geared toward residents who own homes on the shoreline, it is open to the public!

Saturday, March 28th 10am-3pm Stanwood Community and Senior Center / 7430 276th Street NW / Stanwood, WA.

Let us know if you attend, and we’ll post information.

Also, Washington State University has a great new website about shoreline issues at www.shorestewards.wsu.edu.

Installation of final nine water meters scheduled for the week of March 23, 2015

Starting the week of March 23, King Water will commence the installation of the last nine water meters at individual households. These are meters that are two deep in the meter box, fogged or in some cases there is no meter present. The meter project will take place over the next two weeks and will finalize the installation process.

Having meters at all individual households is a major step towards implementing a charge for water usage program.  Meter installations and charging for water usage, are both part of a Washington State Mandate, which has a due by date of January 1, 2017.

King does not anticipate having to shut the system down for the meter project, but as with any project, there may be pipe breaks or unforeseen problems, which may result in a temporary system shut down. If a shut down is necessary, community members will receive notification as timely as possible.

Pressure Manifold Replacement Scheduled for March 12, 2015

King Water has scheduled the Pressure Manifold replacement for Thursday March 12th. The Water System will be shut down from
9am to 6pm. As noted in the earlier post, please take adequate measures in your individual households to prepare the night before, to ensure
you have enough water to sustain your needs for the day.

As the project progresses, their will be notification of any unforeseen issues which may arise, while the work is being completed.

Pressure Manifold Replacement Required within the Next Month

King Water Company has informed the Board there is a problem with the Pressure Manifold at the pump house. The manifold is made of steel and has been corroding over time to the point it is now developing leaks and is in constant need of repair.

It is King Waters conclusion, the Pressure Manifold needs to be replaced as soon as possible to ensure there is no interruption of water service. The replacement manifold will be constructed of PVC, to ensure it can stand up to the corrosive properties, which are a regular part of the minerals in our well water.

The Pressure Manifold replacement project has been scheduled for March and will require the system to be down for approximately eight hours. When we are closer to the date of the project, you will receive a notice with a specific date and time the water system will be shut down.

It will be necessary for you to take adequate measures, so you have water available in your individual house holds, during the system shut down.

More information to come as we get closer to the March project date.

Website Information

Thanks to the community members who said they have found the website useful. In order to manage new information, I’ve done a little re-organization. The Shoreline Information page is no longer password protected. That section will now include general information about living by the shore and knowing about the roles of the government agencies charged with monitoring sensitive resources.

Here are two resources that you’ll find on that page:

The Project Questionnaire (OPAS) is a tool developed by the Department of Ecology to help individuals determine which local, state, and federal environmental permits, approvals, or licenses are needed for Washington State waterfront projects. (If you give this a try, let us know how it works.)

Guide for Shoreline Living is a booklet from the Washington Department of Ecology with a great deal of information relevant to our homes in Livingston Bay. Thanks to Matt Griffin for passing this information along.

The work of all committees will be posted on the Committee page. This includes the recent election report in which the Election Committee certified the re-election of Elaine Glasow. Congratulations, Elaine!

As always, Board of Trustee Minutes will be posted as soon as possible after a meeting. If you can’t something, email me or post a comment.
